DeGraff OH: It was the same old story here at Shady Bowl Speedway as the forceast for afternoon and evening showers forced Shady Bowl Speedway promoter Rick Young to cancel the scheduled racing program for Saturday night (9/3). The speedway did however get the rain postponed "Mean Gene" Johnson Memorial in.
The 63-lap feature for the Bullet Liners of Dayton Thunder Cars was held to honor the memory of Gene Johnson. Johnson was a force to be reckoned with during his driving days. He collected the majority of his feature wins at Eldora and the Bowl.
It is ironic that Buck Purtee of Quincy won the feature in car number 63 as Purtee and Johnson became very close friends before Johnson passed last year. The final rundown for the 63-lap main was Purtee, Brad Blue, Landen Jones, Robert Roush, Frankie Oaks, Richard Roush, Hunter Hicks and Brandon Helton. On next Saturday's (9/10) schedule will be the 7th annual Harrod Septic Solutions 100 lap Compact Challenge.
